DIY Organized Sewing Craft Room Storage

I was fortunate when we moved that the custom sewing craft counter that my husband built me several years ago would perfectly fit into on of the bedrooms in the house we purchased.  All of my Brother Sewing, Brother Sergers, Brother CoverStitch,  Brother Embroidery machines fits on this counter.

The 8 ft by 8 ft L shaped sewing counter that has shelves on one end with a set of drawers on the other end. Brother Scan N Cut and embroidery thread and supplies fits perfectly on shelf.

Below is  stained wooden shelving unit he built to store Cameo and vinyl supplies.

Used a shoe holder on the back of the door to hold some of my heat transfer vinyl. I used command hooks for storing my embroidery hoops and some over-sized patterns
I purchased 4 of these Wire shelving units from Lowe's to store my ribbon.

I have enough working space for my cameo and computer.

This is a new addition to my craft room.  We purchased two 6 cube organizers from Walmart, a white laminated counter top from Home Depot and wood for the front and sides of the counter top.

The mini cube organizer was purchased several years ago from Lowe's with the two drawer cabinet that was sold separately that also holds heat transfer vinyl

The small rolling shelf sitting under the counter my husband build awhile back for a print to sit on and now used for additional storage.

This is the carton showing the 6 cube organizer from Walmart and  below is showing the planning phase of how the counter will be attached.
I painted the back side of the 6 cube organizer since it would be visible. Here I am showing how we attached the two 6 cube organizers under the counter top

We didn't put them right next to edge.  Left about 1 1/2 inches from edge.
We put in 4 screws on each cube to attach
Both of the 6 cube organizers are attached to the underside of the counter top.
Here showing show my husband rounding the edge of the wood making it smooth and looking professionally made. This is the back of the counter.
Here is the finished DIY counter with organized storage units

My new sublimation printer arrived and fits perfectly on top of the new counter  and I moved my heat press machine to this counter

I absolutely love my craft room.  I have a 8 ft by 4 ft cutting table and shelving units in the basement where I store all of my fabric and patterns.

Hope you have enjoyed this DIY tutorial for getting organized for your craft room.

Farmhouse Faux Barn Wood Wall Decor DIY Tutorial

I had my husband cut out the wood design.  I watched a tutorial on YouTube on Faux wood painting and created this design for my kitchen wall.  Now to decide which wall I want to hang it on.

I used mostly Apple Barrel Paint and for the Aqua color I used Folk Art Aqua paint. I used wired burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby to create the bow.  Jute for string to hang.

Used Flamenco Red for the base coat
For the faux barn wood paint I used  Khaki, Black and Dark grey
Here is the paint on Styrofoam plate and stiff cheap brush
Slightly Dip bristles into paint and dab onto paper towel
And create soft brush strokes with very little paint.
Use stiff brush, lightly brush on different natural occurring colors to create faux wood look.
Painted black lines down the front to create the faux barn wood panels. Highlighted with some of the Khaki paint
I used Sweet Hipster font from dafont to create the words Grateful, Thankful and Blessed on my Cameo Silhouette machine.  I am not good at totally free hand painted words - yet.  It takes time and practice.
I used Ormask 813 stencil cutting vinyl and did the reverse weeding method by taking the words out.
I used transfer paper to apply Ormask 813 to the wood.  Removed the transfer tape and made sure the vinyl was pressed onto the wood to prevent any of the paint going under the vinyl.
Here is the paint I used for the letters
I used round foam dabber to lightly paint the letters.  I did light coats - 2 - 3 times. I then pulled up the vinyl while the paint was still wet.

Attached the bow and jute string to hand with using staple gun.  Here is the finished product.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial on creating a Farmhouse Style Barn Wood Wall decor.

As Always, Thanks for Stopping by and browsing my blog.

Serger Brother 1034D - Tutorial on How to Oil

I love sewing with my Brother 1034D Serger.  I was so intimidated when I first got the machine.  I actually let it sit on my sewing counter for about 4 months before I decided - I can do this.  I feared changing the thread.  It is a piece of cake.....so easy. Just follow the instructions on the machine.  If you have not used your machine in the back of the book it says "Oil machine before using".  I did this before I started.  The book also recommends to oil it once a week or once a month depending on how much you use it.  I use mine with almost every garment I sew with - the only items I do not use it on is  when I sew doll shoes for the 18-inch dolls.

I purchased Zoom Sprout from my local Brother Dealer.

I love this bottle.  The design is perfect to getting oil into tiny spots. It has a retractable telescoping spout and the best part it is drip free.

Lets begin - make sure you clean all dust particles from machine before oiling.

Gently squeeze bottle add a drop or two on the areas that the book shows.  Below are the two areas I am oiling.

Area #1

 Area #2

Now you are ready to Serge your items.
