I found the material at Hobby Lobby - zebra polyester and I already had black polyester. After looking at it and looking through my pattern selection I chose to use a standard pants pattern.
I took the zebra material - polyester and made ruffles and attached to bottom of leg pants.
For the top I used and modified McCalls pattern 5775 (lower middle photo on package) to come up with the top.
I made yo yo's and bow tie ribbons and hand sewed them. I used hook and loop tape to close the back of the top. I was afraid it would snag so I tested it before attaching it and the kind I used doesn't snag the polyester. I think it looks really close to the childs outfit.
Let me know what you think - I love to read comments and suggestions.

I love the bubbly dress, yoyos, & bows. Have fun making it again! It's nice when things fly off the shelves:)

ReplyDeleteI think it turned out great! Lookin' good!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peachy. I am making another one for her too. She has a younger daughter and wants another one. The problem is I cannot find that exact fabric anymore. Hobby Lobby said it was a one time spring deal. hmmmm not even spring yet. Anyway found something very similair and the customer said she was ok with it said it really didn't have to match. I found some more zebra print polyester at Hobby Lobby but the print was large and for dolls you need to use small print. So I looked everywhere at stores and online and finally found the similiar material on Ebay. Just about done with #2. I guess lesson learned is buy extra on fabric if not sure if they will get more or ask to see if this is a restock item...LOL
ReplyDeleteYou've done a great job making the doll's outfit match the original. I'm sure it will be well loved by its new owner.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam. The mother and daughter loved it.
